The Fourth Wall

April 27 - May 26

In theater, the fourth wall is the conceptual barrier that separates a performer from the audience. It's common for us to assume an imagined wall separating us from God. We believe He exists, but it's hard to accept the truth that He’s already present in our daily lives.

Read James 4:8

How do we live in the reality of God’s presence?

What is the “loudest” thing in your life?

Main thought: When God seems far away, He’s not!

Read Daniel 3

King neb made a 9 foot statue of himself to be worshipped. From the text it seems that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego knew this obviously wasn’t what God wanted. Sometimes it’s really clear what areas we shouldn’t be giving our time and attention to (like worshipping a 9 foot statue). Sometimes it isn’t as clear. What areas might be tempting to become an idol in your life? What seems obvious and what idols might be sneaking their way into your heart?

Do you have a harder time seeing God in the hard times or the easy times?

In times when you have felt like God wasn’t present, how would you fill in this blank? “If You were really there, wouldn’t You _______?

In a tough season, what lies have you believed about God that you have seen Him replace with truth? If you’re in a tough season now, what lies are you currently believing that He might want to uproot and replace with truth?

Doug gave us 4 things to remember when God feels far:
He is able
Heaven is Real
He is with me
Fire legitimizes my faith.
Which of these is hardest for you to remember when you feel far away from God?

The 3 boys tell the king the lord will save them and say “but even if he doesn’t” they will refuse to worship the idol. What is your “but even if he doesn’t” that you will do/hope to do or believe when God doesn’t show up the ways you think He will?

3 men go in the fire and the soldiers see 4 in there. When you’re in Jesus, you don’t face any battle alone. You have the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit facing each day with you. How could this knowledge change the way you face hard things?

The only thing that burned in the fire was the ropes the boys were tied up with. God often uses the fire to bring freedom. What does God want to free you from in this fire? How have you seen God use the fire to free you from something in the past?

Who do you know who you would call very faithful to the Lord? When is their faith most on display?

What kingdom upgrades & growth have you seen come from tough times? If you’re in a tough time now (and have had some space to process) sit with the Lord and ask what He might want to teach you about Him in this season. How might He want to show up for you in the fire?

What aspects of God do you think the 3 experienced in the fire? What do you think God is inviting you to experience in the fire?
