Gear Up

October 6 -28

All day, every day, an invisible yet very real war rages around you. We have an enemy that continually seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you: your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relationships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny. To be expected, his battle plan depends on catching you unaware and unarmed. If you're tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, it’s time to “Gear Up” and be ready for the battle!

1. Why can it be hard to remember that we are in the midst of a spiritual battle? How could this perspective change the way we live?

2. What does it mean to live by God‘s strength and not our own? What does this practically look like?

3. What does the phrase, “Victory through surrender,” mean to you? What in your life still needs to be surrendered to God in this season?

4. Which piece of the armor of God Is the strongest in your life? Which piece seems to be missing right now?

5. What practical steps are you going to take to “gear up” this week? How can we keep one another accountable in this journey?

Read Ephesians 6:10-12. During this series we have been talking about the spiritual battle that rages all around us. The last two weeks we have shared this quote, “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn’t exist.”

Why do you think we are so quick to dismiss or deny the reality of this battle?

How aware are you to this battle in your own life?

How have you seen/experienced this battle to be a reality in the lives of others? How about in your life personally?

Read Ephesians 6:13-14. This week we talked about the importance of the armor of God. We need to begin with the “belt of truth”. How are you making the truth of the word of God a priority in your life? How can you do this better?

Read John 8:44 and John 6:31-32. Why is it so important for you to know THE Truth?

What lies of the enemy are you most susceptible to?

Finally we also talked about the “body armor of God’s righteousness”. Read 2 Corinthians 5:21. How do you experience God’s righteousness in your life? How do you keep this in perspective throughout your week?

Pray God’s armor over yourself and your group. Pray for God’s help for you, your group & PCCers in combating the enemies’ attacks.

How did you do this past week intentionally putting on the Belt of Truth & The Body Armor of Gods Righteousness?

Were you more aware of the enemies attacks this week?

Have you ever tried to fight this battle with out God’s help? How did that work out?

This week we looked at the next two pieces of God’s armor. Shoes of peace that come from the gospel, and the shield of faith. Why do you think there is such a deficit of peace in our world and all to often in our own lives as well?

Read Romans 5:1, Philippians 4:6-7, Colossians 3:14–15 & 2 Corinthians 4:18. What stands out most to you about the peace that God gives us? How can you apply these verses to your life and your battle against the enemy?

The Shield of Faith is vital to deflect the long pot-shots the enemy sends our way. We stand strong, protected by God’s faithfulness. Share a time when God was faithful. What does this faithfulness in the past say about God’s faithfulness in the present?

Why do you think we are typically so quick to forget God’s faithfulness? What can you do to make sure this doesn’t happen in your life?

Pray together putting on God’s armor for protection this week. Pray as well for any special requests you may have as a group.

Have you ever had an experience where someone protected you (maybe a parent, spouse, sibling or friend)? If so and you feel comfortable sharing about the experience, do so briefly, and also share how it felt to be protected.

There is a very real battle that rages around us. Even when we are unaware. Read Ephesians 6:10-12. Share your observations from this passage. Also share about a time when you were acutely aware of this battle. How does it feel to know that your Heavenly Father’s plan is for you to be protected?

Every week we have shared this quote. “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn’t exist.” Why is this true?

Read 2 Corinthians 10:4. Now that we have learned about all of the armor, try to list them all from memory. Now read Ephesians 6:13-18 together. How do all of these individual pieces of armor work together to protect us? What do each of these pieces of armor protect, and why is it so important to wear the “FULL ARMOR”?

What is your big take-a-way from this series? What can you do to remind yourself throughout the week to “Gear Up” every day?

Pray for each other that you, your families, your marriage, your friends and your church would be protected from the enemy’s attacks. Pray as well for any specific requests you may have.
